Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing

How can a Faith Leader determine what to teach, preach, or write? There’s always plenty of subject matter in the Bible! However, if you're not guided by the Holy Ghost, you might stray off course and, as my spiritual father used to say, end up “in the ditch on one side of the road or the other.” That’s why it’s crucial for Faith Leaders to keep the main thing the main thing.

Beginning with the End

Isaiah 46:10 shows that God declares the end from the beginning, making it a good place for us to start. Revelation 20 describes the end of all things. It says:

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:10-15).

Every Christian, whether in leadership or in the pews, should keep this in mind as their motivation for sharing the Gospel. There will come a day when every person who has rejected Jesus will be cast, along with Satan, into the lake of fire.

The Most Important Message

Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages, or price, of sin is death, and the lake of fire is the ultimate death. However, there are different levels within the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). Sickness, disease, poverty, war, sin, depression, and hatred all fall under what the Bible calls “death.” But once the spirit leaves the body, a person’s eternity is already set. There is no reincarnation, nor is there a purgatory where people can “pay for their sins” after they die. The Bible states it is appointed unto men once to die, and then comes judgment. (Hebrews 9:27) That’s why faith leaders must follow the Holy Spirit when ministering and always extend a call to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord. That is the main thing.

Jesus Paid it All

I’m an employer, just like many Faith Leaders are, and therefore, I always pay the agreed wages to those who work for me. God does the same. When He said “The wages of sin is death,” He meant it and will collect. There are no “ifs,” “ands,” or “buts” about it. Everyone must pay for their sins, but no one besides Jesus had what it took to cover the bill. Somebody had to shed blood because without the shedding of blood, there is no remission (Hebrews 9:22) of sin. Had Jesus not paid it all, no one would escape the lake of fire, but thank God, He did. Paul wrote that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13) But the next verse lays the responsibility on us, Faith Leader: How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:14)

So, whatever you preach, teach, or write, be sure to include the main thing: the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ, because once this life ends, eternity is forever settled.
